Both the devices were introduced in a big event on Wednesday. There are not so many differences between the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and its predecessor. But, the new thing here is the 5.99-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. So now let’s see what new things these devices got under the hood.

The Bigger display and elegant design

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 pro comes with the bigger display than their predecessors. The display of both the devices is of 5.99-inch with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Well, the 18:9 display becomes a trend now as all the new smartphones are coming with it. It is great as well because the users can experience the greater view with less or no bezels on their smartphones.

The concept of the 18:9 aspect ratio display become popular after the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ introduced in the smartphone market. Well, both Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the Full HD+ display having 1080×2160 resolution. The screen is also protected by the Corning Gorilla glass.

Talking about the design, both the devices have an aluminum unibody design. The design is very elegant. Also, If we compare the Redmi Note 5 to its predecessor Redmi Note 4, the back panel of both the devices is exactly same. But, the Redmi Note 5 Pro has a totally unique design. In addition to it, both the devices will be available in different colors- Black, Gold, Blue & Rose Gold.

What’s inside Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro?

Well, the specification of any smartphone is a big factor to decide whether the device is good or not. So let’s see what Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 pro got under the hood.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is not new in terms of specifications like the processor, RAM, Storage etc. Because the device is powered by the same Snapdragon 625 chipset which is in the Redmi Note 4. Maybe the company decided to use the same for keeping its price aggressive. Like any other Xiaomi device, the Redmi Note 5 also comes in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB memory and the other with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of memory. You can expand the storage up to 128GB with the help of a micro-SD card.

On the other hand, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is totally a new device by Xiaomi. It is the World’s first smartphone to feature the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor. It is a flagship device by Xiaomi. The device will also come in two memory variants – 4GB/64GB and 6GB/64GB. The Antutu benchmark score of the Redmi Note 5 Pro is greater than 100k which means the device will going to perform way better with the new Snapdragon 636 processor along with the whooping 6GB of RAM.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro

Both the device packs a 4000mAh battery which will easily last up to a day with the moderate usage. Also, both the device supports USB 2.0 port for charging. The connectivity options include Wifi, Bluetooth, voLTE etc. Also, there is a fingerprint sensor present on the back of the devices. The face unlock feature will also be added to both the device after an OTA update.

Now moving on to the Operating system, both the devices will come with the Android 7.1.2 Nougat under the MiUi 9 skin.

Is there a better Camera?

The Xiaomi A1 is the only device in its budget segment to provide a way better Camera than any other device. But does the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 pro has a better camera in their budget segment? Let’s see.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 comes with the improved 12MP rear camera with the f/2.2 aperture and dual-tone LED flash.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro

The company claims that the rear-facing camera will perform better in low-light conditions. Also, it has a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash on the front. Well, the Camera section of Redmi Note 5 is same as its predecessor with little enhancements. I don’t think the company did well with the Camera of the device because there are a lot of other options available in the market such as the new Honor 9 Lite which is great in terms of design and camera.

Now moving on to the new flagship Redmi Note 5 Pro which comes with a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup to provide detailed images and portraits. A dual-tone LED flash is also there for low-lighting shots. The camera supports EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization) and phase detection autofocus(PDAF) so that your picture won’t blur.

Also, if you are a selfie enthusiast then this device will not disappoint you as it comes with a 20MP selfie shooter camera with f/2.0 aperture and a LED flash. Also, there is an option of Selfie portrait mode too in this device. The Redmi Note 5 Pro looks quite impressive in the camera segment.

Is Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro worth their price?

Xiaomi has set the price of both the devices aggressively. The Redmi Note 5 is priced at INR 9,999 for 3GB/32GB variant and INR 11,999 for 4GB/64GB variant. The device is quite good in this budget range except for its camera.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro, the flagship device by Xiaomi is priced at INR 13,999 for 4GB/64GB variant and INR 16,999 for 6GB/64GB variant. This is a new device in terms of its looks and hardware and a very good product in this price range.

So in my opinion, both the devices are worth their price in terms of hardware and software and the overall performance. Also, both the devices will be available on sale on 22 February at 12 noon at Flipkart and Mi official website.
